Diamonds of the nights - review of Doha Diamond League

Well, the Diamond League is over - which, in the present situation, means that it's also over of the season for many athletes, if not even most. We had a really interesting pole vault competition, even without great six meters bars and record - I mean, we had one, set by three pole vaulters.

From the beginning, we know the weather in Doha. It was very hot, which was visible at athletes' faces. It had to be hard for them, but we saw many great results so nothing but big respect.

Let's get to the competition - at the very beginning, we've seen athletes struggling with the first bars, which caused no classification for Harry Coppell.

Eight place was taken by Thibaut Collet - young Frenchman cleared 5.31 in a second attempt, then 5.46 in first. He missed 5.61, but the whole season was brilliant for him, especially setting new personal best, cementer higher than a missed bar. American Audie Wyatt didn't clear it as well but took seventh place on countback. Next, we have another American - Cole Walsh. He cleared 5.31 in the second attempt, 5.46 in first, 5.61 in second again. Unfortunately, he missed all three trials at 5.71.

Ben Broeders took fifth place, by jumping 5.46 in the second attempt and then 5.61 and 5.71 in third ones. He left 5.77 and tried the next bar, 5.82 - unsuccessfully.

Matt Ludwig was fourth, after clearing 5.31, 5.46 in first attempts, 5.71 in second, and leaving 5.77 to missing all attempts at 5.82.

It's time for the final three - they were called "stars of the evening" even before the meeting and they were the ones.

Renaud Lavillenie and Sam Kendricks started the competition from jumping 5.46 in their first attempts, as well as 5.61. The difference between their result showed up only at this bar - 5.71. The former world record holder cleared it in the third attempt ( with big Kendrick's cheers in the background), American jumped it in his second attempt. Both didn't jump 5.77 ( no one did) and then tried to clear 5.82, meeting record ( earlier jumped by Armand Duplantis). They did in their third attempts, with a big applause from their friends. Sam's cheering became not only his. After this, both couldn't clear 5.92.

Finally, Mondo Duplantis who won for the sixteenth time this season - just outstanding. Also, after the competition we have heard that he was food - poisoned and has felt bad since Thursday ( I can relate, unfortunately, eh) so biggest respect for him. He was jumping one bar and then leaving the next one - that how most of his competition looked like. Swede cleared 5.46, 5.71, and then 5.82 setting MR - of course in the first attempt, as always it just looked incredible. The world record holder left 5.87 to jump 5.92. Two attempts were unsuccessful, so he took the bar to 6.00 - this trial was also unsuccessful. Mondo Duplantis on the countback.

( Armand Duplantis - 5.71)

( Armand Duplantis - 5.82 MR)

That was the end of this season's Diamond League. Big congratulations to every pole vaulter, because it was a really hard time.

The whole event was really funny and amazing for the fans - Sam Kendricks, who became the only one fan on the stadium and cheered for everyone and how the others were cheering for him later - we love to see that, that's what we love in the pole vault.

Thank you all for making this outdoor season happen.

Of course, the blog will continue - I have some things to write about. We'll hear each other soon!
